The card is easy. Keeping it accurate is the problem.
Physical cards, PDF passes, and laminated printouts all share the same flaw: they stop being true the moment a membership changes. A digital membership card is tied to the member record, so it can’t drift out of date.
Printing and replacing cards drains the budget
Every new member, lost card, tier change, and annual reissue means another print run, another envelope, another week of waiting. The cost never stops, because plastic can't be edited.
Members don't carry them
The card is in a drawer at home. The front desk either waves people through unverified or holds the queue while someone searches a database by surname. Their phone, meanwhile, is already in their hand.
Staff can't tell active from lapsed
A plastic card looks exactly the same the day after the membership expires. Without a live check against your records, lapsed members keep using facilities and member rates.
Every change is manual, and the card never hears about it
Expiry dates, tiers, and benefits printed on plastic are outdated the moment they change. Renewal reminders live in one system, the card in another, and nothing connects the two.
From member list to wallet in five steps.
Import your members
Upload a CSV or Excel export from your current database, sync over the REST API, or use members already in Memberlytic.
Design your card
Your logo, brand colours, and the fields that matter: name, member ID, tier, expiry date, status, benefits, custom fields.
Send every member a link
By email, a QR link on posters or newsletters, or the member portal. One tap adds the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Verify at the door
Staff scan the card's QR code or barcode with a phone camera or handheld scanner and see active or expired instantly.
Updates land on the card
Renewal, tier change, or a new benefit: the card in the member's wallet updates in place. Nothing is reprinted or re-sent.
Everything a membership card should do, without the printing.
Apple Wallet and Google Wallet
Native wallet passes for iPhone and Android from one place. No custom wallet infrastructure to build, certify, or maintain.
QR code and barcode verification
Every card carries a scannable code tied to the member record, so any phone camera or handheld scanner becomes a verification point.
Live membership status
Active, expired, or suspended: the card reflects the member record in real time. A lapsed membership can't hide behind old plastic.
Expiry and renewal updates
When a member renews, the new expiry date appears on the card already in their wallet. No reprints, no re-sends, no stale dates.
Tiers, benefits, and custom fields
Gold, Corporate, Family, Student: show each member's tier and entitlements on the card, with a distinct design per tier if you want one.
Your data, your choice
Issue cards from a CSV or Excel import, keep them in sync over the REST API, or run everything on the Memberlytic member database.
One scan answers the only question that matters.
Is this person an active member? Staff scan the QR code or barcode on the card and get the answer from your records, not from the card itself. An expired membership shows up as expired, even if the member added the card a year ago.
- Works with any smartphone camera or handheld scanner, so no special hardware is required
- Works at the front desk, gym floor, clubhouse, pro shop, or event check-in
- Staff see name, tier, expiry, and status in one glance instead of a database lookup by surname

Active member · Checked inExample scan results. The card in the member’s wallet shows the same status, and flips back to active on its own once they renew.
Start with the cards. Keep everything else.
You don’t need to replace your membership system to give members wallet cards. Most organisations launch cards first and decide about the rest later.
Digital cards, standalone
Keep your current membership system, spreadsheet, or database. Cards are issued from your data and verified against it. Nothing gets migrated.
- Import members by CSV or Excel, or sync over the REST API
- Branded cards for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet
- QR and barcode verification at any check-in point
- Expiry and status updates pushed with each import or API call
Cards + the Memberlytic platform
The same cards, connected to one member database, so the updates that keep cards accurate happen without any admin work.
- Renewals and payments update the card the moment a member pays
- Members download and re-download cards from their member portal
- One record behind cards, event check-in, and communications
- Full membership management when you outgrow the spreadsheet
Built for organisations that check membership at a door.
Gyms and fitness studios
Scan at the door instead of fobs and lost key tags. Lapsed memberships are caught at check-in, not at the end of the month.
Golf and country clubs
One card for the clubhouse, pro shop, and guest policy checks, with tier and expiry visible to any staff member who scans it.
Associations and chambers
Verify member rates at events and CPD sessions without a printed delegate list. Cards show membership grade and standing.
Clubs and societies
Replace the annual reprint cycle. New committee, new year, new expiry: the cards already in members' wallets simply update.
Alumni networks
Give graduates a card the day they leave, and keep it valid for decades without ever mailing plastic to an outdated address.
Nonprofits and charities
Recognise supporters and volunteers with a branded card, without spending donation money on printing and postage.
Coworking communities
Members carry proof of their plan on their phone. The front desk scans it for day passes, meeting-room rates, and guest access.
Museums and attractions
Annual passholders skip the ticket queue with a scan. Renewals extend the same card, so lapsed passes stop at the gate.
What are digital membership cards?
Digital membership cards are wallet passes that replace plastic member cards. They live in Apple Wallet on iPhone and Google Wallet on Android, and show the member’s name, ID, tier, expiry date, status, and benefits, plus a QR code or barcode staff can scan to verify membership. Because the card is linked to the member record rather than printed once, it stays correct: renew a membership, change a tier, or suspend an account, and the card already in the member’s wallet updates to match.
For organisations in Malaysia, this removes the two ongoing costs of physical cards: printing and replacing plastic, and the staff time spent checking whether the person holding a card is still actually a member.
Apple Wallet vs Google Wallet membership cards
The two wallets serve the same purpose on different platforms. Apple Wallet passes cover every iPhone; Google Wallet passes cover Android. Both are pre-installed, free for members, and hold the card on the device without a separate app, account, or login. You issue one card design and members receive it in whichever wallet their phone uses, so coverage is effectively every smartphone your members carry.
Digital membership cards vs plastic cards
| Plastic cards | Digital wallet cards | |
|---|---|---|
| Issuing a card | Print run, envelope, postage, days of waiting | Emailed link, in the wallet within a minute |
| Lost or forgotten card | Reprint fee and another mail-out | Re-download from the same link or member portal |
| Expiry and tier changes | Card is wrong until it’s reprinted | Card updates in place, automatically |
| Verifying membership | Visual check of a card that may be expired | QR scan against the live member record |
| Ongoing cost | Per-card printing for every join, loss, and renewal | No printing, no postage, no reissues |
How renewals and expiry updates work
Each card is tied to a member record with an expiry date. Running standalone, you refresh those records with a CSV import or an API call, and every affected card updates in members’ wallets. Connected to Memberlytic’s renewal software, the loop closes on its own: reminders go out before expiry, the member pays online, and the card shows the new expiry date the moment payment clears, with no admin in between.

Frequently asked questions about digital membership cards
No. Digital membership cards live in Apple Wallet, which is pre-installed on every iPhone, and Google Wallet on Android. Members tap a link, choose "Add to Wallet", and the card is on their phone. There is nothing to download, no account to create, and no password to remember.
Yes. You can keep your current membership system, spreadsheet, or database and issue cards from it. Upload a CSV or Excel export to create cards in bulk, or connect over the REST API to keep card data in sync automatically. You do not have to migrate to Memberlytic to use digital cards.
Yes. When a membership is renewed, the new expiry date is pushed to the card that is already in the member's wallet, with no reprint and no re-send. Standalone, you trigger updates with a fresh import or an API call. Connected to Memberlytic's renewal module, the card updates automatically the moment payment clears.
Every card carries a QR code or barcode tied to the member record. Staff scan it with a smartphone camera or a handheld scanner and immediately see the member's name, tier, expiry date, and whether the membership is active. It works the same at the front desk, gym floor, clubhouse, pro shop, or event check-in.
Yes. Digital membership cards are a standalone product. Run them alongside whatever you use today via CSV import or the API. If you later want renewals, payments, a member portal, and communications in the same place, the cards connect to the full Memberlytic platform without being reissued.
Yes. Cards carry your logo, brand colours, and the fields you choose: member name, ID, tier, expiry date, status, benefits, and custom fields. You can give each membership tier its own design, so a Gold card looks different from a Student card.
Members get their card by email with an "Add to Wallet" link, by scanning a QR link you share in newsletters or at reception, or from their member portal if you use one. New members can be issued a card the moment they join.
The card in the member's wallet shows the expired status, and a scan at the door flags it immediately, so staff no longer have to guess from a piece of plastic. Once the member renews, the same card flips back to active on its own.
